Fabric choice is the most important decision in curtain selection — more important than colour, pattern, or heading style. The fabric determines how your curtains drape, how they filter light, how they age, and how much maintenance they require. Here's everything you need to know.

Velvet

Velvet is the luxury choice for curtains. Its dense pile creates beautiful, deep folds and has natural blackout properties. Velvet absorbs sound, making it excellent for bedrooms and home theatres. The downside: it's heavy (requiring robust hardware), attracts dust, and requires professional dry cleaning. Best for: master bedrooms, formal living rooms, home theatres.

Linen
